It was art deco classic meets sweet & eclectic for Camille & Alex's August nuptials!
Our overcast and blessedly-non-scorching day started simple and sweet as I arrive to Camille getting the finishing touches of her accessories on, accompanied by her mom & sisters as they waited for Alex to arrive. A minimal-fuss front-porch first fit the bill for these our low-key couple, and after a quick flash of some super cute details (check out Alex's custom socks featuring their cat Pancake, and Camille's personalised shoelace-charms), it was off to The Permanent!
A Vancouver favourite for good reason, The Permanent is a hidden jewel amongst the bustle of downtown. Relatively unassuming street-side, despite it's beautiful pillars, wrought iron-adorned doors, and sculptural flourishes, the inside of this space are the real wow-factor! Hand-laid intricate tiling, stained glass windows, an intact vault door from its days as a one-time-bank, multiple eye-catching chandeliers, a presiding loft, and topped off with the pièce de résistance, a spectacular domed stain glass skylight, this art deco gem needs next to nothing to shine as a wedding venue! Accordingly, decor was kept simple but sweetly personal, with a guestbook area flanked with bud-vases of cute florals and frames of family photos and weddings-of-yore. The guestbook itself was embroidered with little leaves and flowers, hinting at a little surprise-to-come. The alter, framing that show-stopping vault door, perfectly accentuated the space.
Alex greeted their guests as they arrived as the DJ provided carefully hand-chosen music, while Camille hid away and donned the aforementioned surprise in preparation for the ceremony- a gorgeous colourfully embroidered floral tulle cape in lieu of a traditional veil. Her grand entrance was just that—grand—as our awesome planning team opened in tandem those 10-foot wooden double front doors to reveal Camille. The ceremony itself was a special one, I think their hand-written vows were maybe the best I've ever heard- these two are both talented writers, and had their guests eating out of their hands with both laughter and tears aplenty!
Post-ceremony, a round of family photos on those gorgeous front steps led into portraits as the planning team reset the first floor for the reception while guests enjoyed drinks and finger food up above in the loft. When we first met, Camille and Alex both expressed being quite shy and nervous about the portraits, but you'd never tell in person or in the photos! For both their engagement session and the wedding day portraits, these two were great, and their connection felt so comfortable and easy.
Dinner, from the extremely talented folks at Cocktails and Canapes, was a real treat, something that Camille and Alex put high on their priority list. Three delicious courses and a gorgeous and super-tasty tart in lieu of cake, what a treat! Speeches were full of funny stories about the bride and groom (Alex's mom truly stole the show), and then it was time to dance the night away! Such a sweet and special day!
