Who doesn't love a beach wedding??
Veronica and Marc happened to choose my very favourite one in the lower mainland to boot! This intimate little spot half-hidden down the very far end of Spanish Banks is a well-kept secret for a small scale ceremony, and costs a fraction of most venues as it's technically a park! Close enough to the parking lot to easily bring in some decor, but nestled out of the way of the main beach on the bulk of the crowds, with mostly just joggers and dog-owners passing by on their way to the dog beach and further around the peninsula to Acadia and Wreck beach.
We jumped straight into it on my arrival after a few quick photos of the set-up as a last few members of the intimate guest list arrived, Veronica arriving only minutes later in her beautiful unique ivory Elie Saab lace gown and vintage up-do (something very Diane Kruger about her flaxen colour and the style!). Marc, flanked by his parents, lead the way down the aisle, followed by Veronica's sister-in-law and adorable round-cheeked niece, and then Veronica herself, similarly accompanied by her parents. The ceremony was lovely and unique, with each set of parents getting up and reading an excerpt (Marc's father from Le Petit Prince, Veronica's a favourite verse from his bible). Handwritten vows exchanged, rings on fingers, documents signed and witnessed, they were showed with bright rose petals as they came back down the aisle as a married pair.
After a round of family photos, guests departed to Marc's parents' Shaughnessy home while Veronica, Marc and I stayed behind for portraits. We started with a few under the shade of the ceremony-adjacent trees on the beach before doing a quick relocation up the road to Acadia Beach, which has a gorgeous mix of rocky beach, forested pathway, and the prettiest little sun-dapped stream (shout-out to Marc & Veronica for being game to take off their shoes and wade in). As the sun lowered, we ended portraits amongst the tall seaside grasses that make Acadia Beach one of my favourite spots for photos. The whole palette from light to way it caught in the grass to Veronica's dress and hair was just decidedly golden. So pretty! And they truly look so relaxed and so happy together. That connection session really paid it forward for these portraits!
Portraits in the can, we headed south the the LeJay family home, with guests enjoying the grassy lawn and gardens (Marc's mother truly has a green thumb! And the French lavender and lilies everywhere smelled heavenly!). On the patio, tables were set up with sweet vintage flair from the garden-fresh flowers with mismatched vases to the china and silverware- so adorable! Lawn games (starring Veronica's little niece as the perpetual scene-stealer) lead into a surprise guitar performance by Veronica's father and uncle, and then into dinner, with wine aplenty and a unique approach to dinner perfect for a small gathering: DoorDashed from 3 pre-selected nearby restaurants so every truly got exactly what they wanted! A beautiful cake made by Veronica's aunt with ice cream and Marc's mother's raspberry compote topped things off as speeches were kept simple and sweet, and very sentimental.
My time with this lovely group closed out with a slideshow put together by Marc's father, with both families sharing well-loved stories of Veronica & Marc's childhoods all the way up to their meeting and life together. It was the perfect end to the perfect day- simple, sweet, uniquely them!
