contemporary gastown & east van artist portraits
Mike, a great drummer, is one of my best friends from university. He came to me needing some shots that were a little more diverse than the standard headshot. Most musicians these days need a suite of images that cover everything from simple to creative, for anything from websites to posters.
We decided to go for two contrasting settings; Gastown and East Van. Donning his suit, we started in Gastown to get some classy 'city' shots of Mike looking dapper and professional. We next went to Merge in East Van and I helped style the selection of clothes he brought for some a cooler vibe (Mike says, "hipster", but whatever, if it works it works!). Merge, right on the border of railtown, has an extremely cool rooftop area with a very industrial vibe. Big props to Mike for scaling the fire escape; he only let me know he's afraid of heights after! Trooper!
We ended the day at one of my favourite neighbourhood haunts, café Platform 7 for a couple shots of Mike sipping coffee from his favourite mug and reading up on the latest drum technique and music theory books.
Really enjoyed working with my old friend, and he sure scrubs up nice!
