JUNE 2022
Emily & Brendon
epic and glamorous big sky wedding
Talk about scenic!
Emily and Brendon's Whistler/Pemberton wedding was truly a feast for the eyes! I started my day in the town centre at an airbnb rental with Brendon and the guys while Alanna, who I was 2nd shooting for, was with Emily and the girls nearby. A charismatic, sweet groom, super fun buddies, constant offers for a finger or two of whiskey (I graciously declined, of course!), and an absolute sweetie of a pup made for a pretty darn nice 'getting ready' hour!
It was soon time for the epic first look along the banks of Fitzsimmons Creek which runs that gorgeous alpine milky-turquoise. Super beautiful spot, and still Emily looked even more beautiful! Brandon definitely agreed, totally blown away by her dramatic silk crepe mermaid gown with its intricate embroidered applique back and train. She looked like something straight out of a bridal magazine.
Soon after we left for a special secret spot on the north side of Green Lake north of Whistler Village for bridal party and couple portraits. GORGEOUS spot, oh my god! Alanna, who is a local, said it's a common secret spot for elopements in the area... uhhh yes please! Wedding gods please bless me with an elopement here in the future!! After the wedding party pics were wrapped up, we left Alanna, the bride & groom, and the video team for some quiet for couple portraits and I headed up to Pemberton to get detail shots of the ceremony set-up before guests arrived.
Big Sky Golf Club earns its reputation for being one of the most spectacularly scenic golf courses on the continent. With Mt. Currie towering over the ceremony site, it was hard to think of a better view! Tasteful modern decor and florals carried from the ceremony set-up into the reception, punctuated with brass hardware and an abundance of roses, orchids, and baby's breath.
The ceremony was concise but heartfelt, family members wiping emotional tears from the front row. Portraits out of the way, after family photos the couple was happy to head straight into the cocktail hour on the deck of the restaurant with their guests, sipping signature cocktails and local Whistler-made craft beer. A rowdy reception entrance was followed by speeches that ranged from tear-jerking to hilarious, and just before leaving we were able to sneak Emily and Brendon outside onto the now-empty green for some last end-of-the-day portraits with perfect glowy light filtering through the clouds. Those last portraits within the reeds are my favourite of the day!
Man do I love having an excuse to drive up to Whistler & Pemberton! And I have been truly blessed this summer in 2nd shooting for some absolutely wonderful and VERY chill people. Alanna was a dream, and I was very stoked to know I'd be back the next weekend for Rose & Luke's wedding at Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre!
